2. READ THE STORY OF THE PRODIGAL SON (LUKE 15:11-32) AND THE DEVOTION BELOW.

As a church, we are in the middle of our series “The Secret Lives of Almost Everyone” and talking about the secrets that we keep and the lies that keep us from developing a stronger relationship with God. As a human, we tend to build up walls made up of guilt and shame. They are built strong and tall with burdens from past mistakes. It’s like we cement many burdens into these walls without even knowing it and we keep layering brick after brick.

The Crowder songs talks about the story of the prodigal son (Read Luke 15:11-32). When the son returned home, he carried his wall with him. His plan was to essentially pay for his sin, and he had sinned a lot. “I’ll get up, go to my father,” he determines, “and say to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight. I’m no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired hands” (15:18-20).

But his father had a very different response than the son expected: “The father told his slaves, ‘Quick! Bring out the best robe and put it on him; put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet… let’s celebrate with a feast, because this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found!’” (15:22-24).

So often we avoid God or run from God because we fear his response. The secret LIE of almost everyone is that we’ve just gone too far, sinned too much, hurt too many people. He’ll never take us back. What the story of the prodigal son tells us is that God not only accepts us as we are, but he rejoices at our homecoming. He celebrates us. He’s takes us in his arms and says welcome. You’re my child. Pastor Mike reminded us two weeks ago that “God loves us just as we are but way too much to let us stay as we are.”

The truth of the gospel breaks through our walls. So let’s shatter our walls of shame and walk through them in freedom. This week, lift your head. There is hope in Jesus. Take some time to Know Jesus and to Make Him Known.

3. Write the father's response on a card and place it where you will see it this week. Commit it to memory: "you are always with me, and everything I have is yours"

4. Spend a few minutes in prayer. Spend 1 minute asking God to forgive of your sins. Spend 1 minute thanking God for all that He has given you as Father. Spend 1-3 minutes praying for specific needs you may have.  Spend 1-2 minutes praying for you family, your employer, your church, etc.

5. Give. Even though we didn't meet together in a physical location, the church is still doing the work God has called us to. Your regular and faithful giving helps us to fund our core ministries, pay our bills, and Make Jesus Known in our community. You can give here.
